New Delhi, February 20, 2026: ‘ShikshaNext’, a bold, multi-donor, multi-year initiative aimed at improving learning outcomes for children from underserved communities by leveraging EdTech and AI, was launched on Wednesday. This three-year, Rs 170-Cr initiative was launched in the presence of Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, Hon’ble Minister of Education, Government of India, and Shri Sanjay Kumar, IAS, Secretary, Ministry of Education, on the sidelines of the India AI Impact Summit in New Delhi.

ShikshaNext aims to enable more than 13 million children across India to access meaningful, technology- and AI-enabled learning opportunities by 2029.

ShikshaNext is supported by a coalition of philanthropic organisations and ecosystem partners committed to strengthening learning outcomes through technology. The initiative is anchored by Reliance Foundation and the Gates Foundation as Founding Strategic Partners, with Central Square Foundation as Managing Partner, and is also funded by Michael & Susan Dell Foundation. ShikshaNext combines catalytic philanthropy and deep expertise, creating a shared focus on execution and impact.

Delivering the keynote address, Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, Hon'ble Minister of Education, Government of India, who launched ShikshaNext outlined the pathway towards a Viksit Bharat 2047, emphasising the role of technology and AI in enhancing quality of education, empowering teachers, and preparing youth for the future of work. Speaking at the launch of the Initiative, he said, “This is an important platform where Sarkar, Samaaj aur Sanstha have come together to make EdTech truly Sabka EdTech. The next step is to turn this into a Jan Andolan that ensures technology benefits every learner. India will present a model to the Global South that makes quality EdTech affordable and accessible for all.”

Dharmendra Pradhan

The initiative will operate across three interconnected programmes:

  • EdTech ScaleX, an initiative to scale proven EdTech and AI solutions that have demonstrated measurable learning gains through integration with state education systems and community-driven programs.
  • EdTech Accelerator, a programme to support the development and growth of high-quality EdTech and AI solutions aligned with India’s diverse classroom needs.
  • EdTech & AI Innovation Hub, a collaborative space to discover, test, and validate emerging EdTech and AI innovations, with a focus on India-centric solutions across languages, grades, and learning contexts.

All programmes are underpinned by a strong commitment to rigorous evidence generation, ensuring that insights on what works, for whom, and under what conditions guide the basis for how technology is integrated with education systems.

Partners expressed their deep commitment and optimism in scaling up proven solutions:

“Students catch up and move ahead when learning adapts to their needs. Personalised, technology-enabled tools can make that possible at scale. Entering the AI era, India is building on a decade of education reforms, stronger early learning, and tools that already deliver results in classrooms. ShikshaNext takes the next step by backing proven solutions and helping public school systems use them widely, so more children succeed in school and beyond.” – Prachi Jain Windlass, Head of India, Michael & Susan Dell Foundation, India.

“Reliance Foundation’s vision is simple yet profound – that every child in India should have the opportunity to fulfil their potential and realise their dreams. The rapid expansion of digital connectivity and 5G over the past decade has unlocked unprecedented possibilities to deliver quality education to every corner of our country.

We have seen that when philanthropy, government, educators, and innovators come together with shared purpose, technology in education moves beyond promising pilots to achieving measurable learning outcomes at scale. ShikshaNext represents the next step in this journey – a collaborative platform to generate rigorous evidence, strengthen partnerships, and harness the power of AI responsibly and inclusively.

Our commitment is to ensure that the next generation of AI-enabled solutions is not only innovative, but equitable – designed to serve every child, everywhere, and to truly transform India’s educational future.” – B Srinivasan, Executive Lead, Reliance Foundation.

“When EdTech is rooted in strong pedagogy and evidence, we now know it can drive real learning gains at scale; as generative AI adds fresh momentum, initiatives like ShikshaNext can channel catalytic funding and partnerships to ensure these technologies are designed for low-resource classrooms and guided by sound teaching principles, not just technological possibility.” – Benjamin Piper, Director, Global Education at the Gates Foundation.

“As we look to the future of learning in Bharat, Central Square Foundation’s focus is on making technology work for the children who need it most; with ShikshaNext, CSF is bringing together committed partners, rigorous evidence, and learning-focused capital so that EdTech and AI translate into real, measurable gains in classrooms, not just promises on paper.” – Ishmeet Singh, Chief Executive Officer, Central Square Foundation.

The launch brought together senior officials from the Ministry of Education, representatives from leading philanthropic organisations, EdTech innovators, educators, and partners from across the country, marking a collective commitment to harnessing AI and technology to strengthen learning outcomes for every child in India.

AI Edtech Dialogue Hosted by Reliance Foundation and Central Square Foundation Recommends Urgent Need to Reimagine Education in the AI Era

  • 13 January, 2026
  • Mumbai, Maharashtra
  • 9 min read

•Key recommendations synthesised to inform national and global conversations at the India AI Impact Summit 2026

•Insights shared from the LiftEd EdTech Accelerator, which has reached over 3 million children

•Leaders from philanthropy, EdTech, academia and the private sector examined how AI-enabled education can deliver equitable, measurable learning gains at scale and emphasised the need for cross-sector collaboration across the ecosystem to achieve this

Mumbai, January 13, 2026: As an official pre-summit event of the India AI Impact Summit 2026, Reliance Foundation, in partnership with Central Square Foundation, convened a high-level roundtable on AI in Education at Jio Institute, Navi Mumbai. The half-day convening brought together over 50 leaders and experts from philanthropic organisations, EdTech, academia and the private sector to examine how Artificial Intelligence (AI) and EdTech can be harnessed to improve learning outcomes and rethink education in the age of AI.

The convening concluded with a synthesis of strategic insights to inform ongoing national and global conversations at the India AI Impact Summit 2026. Participants reiterated the importance of sustained collaboration between governments, private sector, innovators, researchers, and funders to ensure that AI-enabled EdTech strengthens education systems at scale rather than creating standalone tools. At a moment when AI is reshaping education systems globally, the dialogue also focused not only on innovation, but on the harder question of impact: how promising AI-enabled solutions can move beyond pilots to deliver meaningful, inclusive, and scalable learning gains in low-resource, multilingual contexts.

Grounding the Global Conversation: Innovation with Purpose

The discussions echoed global priorities rooted in local realities: aligning AI with learning science, safeguarding equity and inclusion, and measuring scale through learning outcomes rather than reach alone. Participants noted that better technology does not automatically translate into better learning.

The keynote address by Dr. Shailesh Kumar, Chief Data Scientist, Jio and Dean, Jio Institute, reflected on global debates around Education 4.0 and the need to fundamentally reimagine education systems for a digital- and AI-first world.

Dr. shailesh kumar

Dr. Shailesh Kumar said: “It is time to re-imagine our Education System—what should it look like if it was born today, in the post-connectivity and AI era? It is time to bring personalised education to every child on the planet.” He emphasised moving away from one-size-fits-all, ‘just-in-case’ education models towards personalised and student-centric learning systems that focus on building mastery learning and thinking skills through contextualised pedagogy, enabled by AI at scale.

Experts discussed the innovation landscape for AI-enabled learning, highlighting emerging use cases across personalised instruction, teacher support, assessment, and home-based learning—especially for early childhood education and foundational literacy and numeracy. The discussions also explored what it takes to scale, including institutional adoption, cost structures, multilingual content, data infrastructure, and the realities of deploying AI within government systems and community-based learning ecosystems.

Philanthropy as a Catalyst for Systemic Change

A central theme across the convening was the critical role of philanthropy in shaping the next phase of AI and EdTech in India. Participants emphasised that philanthropy’s value lies not only in funding innovation, but also in de-risking early ideas, enabling long-term evidence generation, strengthening organisational capacity, and convening diverse actors around shared priorities.

“Building AI and EdTech for impact is not just about the technology itself – it is about understanding the ground realities of implementing it in classrooms, homes, and communities. Learnings from the LiftEd EdTech Accelerator show how contextualised design and evidence-led approaches can support quality learning at scale,” said Dr. Vanita Sharma, Advisor – Strategic Initiatives, Reliance Foundation.

From Innovation to System-Wide Scale

The discussion highlighted that scaling effective AI-enabled learning solutions is a systems challenge—requiring alignment across policy, pedagogy, delivery models, research, and ecosystem partnerships. Participants stressed the need to design for India’s diversity, including multilingual content, offline or low-bandwidth access, shared-device use, and alignment with state curricula.

“The next frontier for EdTech is not just innovation, but scaling proven, contextualised solutions through government systems and community adoption to drive learning outcomes at scale,” said Gouri Gupta, Senior Project Director, EdTech, Central Square Foundation (CSF), setting the stage for recommendations to be carried forward to the national summit.

From Dialogue to Action

The event reinforced a shared commitment that AI and EdTech must serve as a force multiplier for equity, not efficiency alone. Participants underscored that teachers and parents remain central to learning, with AI acting as a supportive enabler through personalisation, feedback, and data-driven insights.

As India positions itself as a global leader in AI for social impact, such cross-sector dialogues play a vital role in shaping pathways from innovation to evidence, and from evidence to system-wide adoption. The insights from this roundtable will contribute to shaping the education agenda at the India AI Impact Summit 2026.

Mumbai, 7th November 2025: The Army Marksmanship Unit (AMU), Mhow, the elite shooting training establishment under the Indian Army’s Mission Olympics Wing, has signed its first-ever corporate partnership for sports development with Reliance Foundation (RF).

This partnership currently supports 14 shooters training at AMU, including Paris Olympian Sandeep Singh and Subedar Preeti Rajak, the Army’s first woman Subedar.

Mrs. Nita M. Ambani, Founder Chairperson, Reliance Foundation, said: “It is an honour for Reliance Foundation to partner with the Indian Army and the Army Marksmanship Unit (AMU) to strengthen their world-class shooting programme.

From Colonel Rajyavardhan Rathore to lieutenant Colonel Neeraj Chopra — the Indian Army has given us heroes who make every Indian proud across sports. I am especially proud that Subedar Preeti Rajak, the Army’s first woman Subedar and a star shooter, is supported by Reliance Foundation as part of this partnership.

This collaboration is not just a programme — it is a sankalp to see India rise to the very top in sports. Together, we will nurture champions who make the nation proud.”

Through scholarship, coaching, sports science integration, international exposure and quality coaching, the partnership aims to build a strong podium pathway for India at the 2028 and 2032 Olympics.
