COVID-19
Relief
The COVID-19 pandemic continued to loom
over India in FY21-22, with new variants driving
new waves of infection. The most serious of
these was the second wave, which caused
an unprecedented spike in hospitalisations
and deaths. Supplies of medical oxygen
ran dangerously low, pushing up PPE and
emergency food requirements. The public
health messaging also had to evolve to
persuade people of the merits of vaccination,
as an ambitious new programme was rolled out
across the country. The pandemic continued to
affect health and livelihoods and demanded
a comprehensive response on both fronts.
